Service Description

Japanese Paper Folding Workshop - newspaper boxes and bags Join local artist Rachel Ring for a thoughtful paper workshop exploring how everyday recycled materials can be transformed into something both useful and beautiful. In this 2-hour session, you will learn techniques for making simple but durable folded newspaper boxes, ideal for household uses such as seed pots, compost trays, and small baskets. You will also learn how to make a Japanese Shimanto bag. This workshop is a lovely introduction to paper craft, combining practical making with creative reuse. Using recycled newspaper, you will explore accessible folding techniques that offer an alternative to waste and mass production, while creating objects that are sturdy, functional, and satisfying to make. Suitable for beginners, this workshop is open to anyone curious about paper, making, and sustainable craft. You will leave with your finished pieces and plenty of ideas for continuing at home. Class size: Maximum 8 students About the tutor Rachel Ring is a St Leonards-on-Sea based artist whose work explores the sculptural and portable potential of paper. With a background in fine art, book arts, and theatre design, she creates tactile, engaging work shaped by interests in buildings, domestic spaces, and everyday objects. Terms & Conditions for Class Bookings Most of our classes are designed for adults. If you are unsure whether a class is suitable, please contact us before booking. Bookings & Payments - Classes, workshops and events can be booked via our website or in person at Bus Stop Studios, 53 London Road, St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex TN37 6AY. - Bookings are first come, first served. - Full payment is required at the time of booking to secure your place. (please see below for payment options) - A booking confirmation will be sent by email once payment has been processed. Pricing & Supported Places - As a small independent business, our class fees help cover running costs, tutor pay, preparation time and associated expenses. - We may offer 1-2 lower income or supported places on selected courses, subject to availability. - These must be requested by email before booking and are offered at our discretion. - If the cost of a longer course feels difficult to manage, please contact us before booking and we may be able to discuss options such as a payment plan. Materials - Materials and tools vary by class. Please check the course description for details. Cancellations & Changes - Bookings are non-refundable. - Transfers are usually not possible due to small class sizes. - With at least 14 days' notice, we may be able to offer a transfer or credit note, subject to availability. - With 7 days' notice, we may be able to offer an alternative date, but this is not guaranteed. -If you cannot attend, you may send someone else in your place. Please let us know their name before the class. Cancellations by Us - If we need to cancel a class, workshop or event, you will receive a full refund. - Our liability is limited to the cost of the class only. Insurance & Copyright - Bus Stop Studios is fully insured for all classes and workshops, and all tutors hold their own Public Liability Insurance. - Course content, handouts, photography and designs are for personal use only and may not be copied, shared or used for teaching or commercial purposes without written permission. Photography - We may occasionally take photographs during classes for marketing or social media. - We will always ask permission before taking or using identifiable images. - Please let us know in advance if you have any concerns about photography.
