About the event

Join us for our second 'Chats at the Bus Stop' with local artist, author and muse Sue Tilley.

Born in South London in 1975,  Sue Tilley is best known as the model for Lucian Freud's famous portrait 'Benefits Supervisor Sleeping',a painting that broke the record. for the most money spent in auction on a piece of art by a (then) living artist, but before this was painted Sue worked at the Jobcentre on Denmark Street, Soho.

It was whilst working here that she became a stalwart of the eighties club circuit and met the legendary 80s icon  Leigh Bowery.  Bowery employed Sue as cashier at his infamous nightclub 'Taboo', it was during this time that Bowery introduced her to artist Lucian Freud, the rest is history!

In 1997 she published her biography of Leigh Bowery 'The life and times of an Icon, a biography'.  Sue carried on working at the Jobcentre until 2015 when she retired and moved to St Leonards-on-Sea.  She now paints, and has exhibited across the UK.
