"Message in Sky" — Exclusive Bayeux Inspired Embroidery Kit
 
Introducing "Message in Sky", an exclusive embroidery kit designed by professional hand embroiderer Amy Burt of Lady B Embroidery, created especially for Bus Stop Studios.
 
There's something rather fitting about launching a Bayeux Tapestry inspired kit from right here in Hastings. The tapestry famously tells the story of the Battle of Hastings, and nearly a thousand years on, we're bringing a piece of that history back home, stitch by stitch.
 
The design
"Message in Sky" takes its inspiration from one of the most striking scenes in the Bayeux Tapestry, the appearance of Halley's Comet blazing across the sky, watched by onlookers who took it as an omen of the momentous events to come. It's a beautiful reminder of how the tapestry's makers captured not just history but wonder, and how stitched cloth can carry a message across centuries.
 
What you'll learn
This kit is your chance to learn the famous Bayeux stitch, the very technique used to create the original tapestry, alongside a range of traditional embroidery stitches including stem stitch, chain stitch, split stitch, back stitch, satin stitch & French knots, all worked in DMC Eco Vita threads, naturally dyed using traditional methods just as the original Bayeux Tapestry's threads would have been. Whether you're picking up a needle for the first time or adding to your stitching repertoire, you'll come away with skills as old as the tapestry itself, guided every step of the way by an accompanying instruction booklet.

About the designer
Amy Burt is a trained hand embroidery artist with a background at the Royal School of Needlework & experience working with London fashion houses. She teaches on the RSN hand embroidery degree & runs her own independent embroidery brand, Lady B Embroidery, alongside Bus Stop Studios, the independent creative studio, shop & gallery she opened in St Leonards on Sea in December 2023.
 
Every kit design is created & hand packed by Amy herself, as part of a small independent business rooted in traditional craft & Hastings' rich history.
