  • Fair Isle Knitting Course

Fair Isle Knitting Course A special short course running as part of the Bus Stop Studios Summer School. Learn to knit Stranded Colourwork otherwise known as Fair Isle knitting This is a project based class led by Harriet Couchman of Flock, where we will explore Fair Isle (stranded colourwork) knitting. Over three classes we will complete two small projects: a headband and a coffee cup cozy, to introduce techniques including: -Knitting with two or more colours -Yarn management -Knitting in the round -Reading charted colourwork patterns -Stranding yarns across the back of your work and catching long floats -Selecting and using colour -Sewing in ends and finishing -Steeking (cutting) your knitting Week 1 We will make a start on our first project - a headband in two colours, following a simple colourwork chart and looking at how to hold the yarn and maintain an even tension as one colour is stranded across the back of the work. We will also discuss how to select colours for our next project. Week 2 We will begin knitting our coffee cozy in the round with four colours. This is the ideal small project to learn to steek (cut open) your knitting! You will finish knitting the main body of the coffee cozy between weeks 2 and 3. Week 3 We will use a crochet hook to secure our steek and then cut it open and start to add button bands. For both projects we will be working with DK weight yarn for speed and so that you don’t have to get used to small diameter needles whilst learning stranded colourwork. These classes are aimed at knitters who already know how to knit and are looking for a more adventurous project. You should be able to cast on, knit, purl and knit in the round, and some homework will be required! You will need to bring a set of 3.75mm double pointed needles and two colours of DK weight yarn to the first class. Yarn should ideally be 100% wool and non-superwash and you should choose one light and one dark colour. --- Harriet is an experienced knitter and teacher and the co-owner of Flock, an online yarn and knitting shop based in St Leonards. Harriet runs the Bus Stop Studios 'Knit Club' weekly knitting group which runs Thursday evenings starting again in September www.flockworkshop.uk Running Thursday evenings 6:30pm - 8:30pm 1st August 8th August 15th August at Bus Stop Studios 53 London Road St Leonards on Sea East Sussex TN37 6AY

Clarissa will be giving private 30 minute tarot readings in person at Bus Stop Studios This booking page is for Friday 12th July 6-9pm (see details below). She will also be running tarot reading workshops over the Summer sharing her in depth knowledge of the art of Tarot. ------ "I have been practicing tarot for 25 plus years. It’s my belief that we get answers when we need them, from any source that we’re open to. So for me, tarot provides a way of gaining insight and contextualises all the factors surrounding a question. I've always found it to be a really useful guide, a way of finding a new perspective or clarity about some aspect of my life or circumstances. I’m a practicing visual artist as well, and so one of the reasons that I found my way to tarot is that it’s largely a visual, pictorial language, infused with layers of symbolism - all creating a kind of storybook for each spread. How I work with the tarot - Tarot spreads can address all topics - love, career, family, travel, any area of your life in which you’re seeking clarity. My expertise is in the nuances of meanings in each card, and how they relate holistically. I’ve done thousands of readings over the years, and have consistently seen perspective and clarity come from readings! When you book a private session, I usually like the Celtic Cross spread, which is a good indicator of all factors influencing your life. We can then fine tune specific questions, such as yes/no/why, or the timing of events, or a look at past influences and how they factor into a current decision." Clarissa is a visual artist, with many years of experience working in the film industry as a Scenic Artist in New York, as well as exhibiting her work internationally. She also has been working with the Tarot for over 25 years and is the author of the newly-released deck, Lenormand de Paris, published by Köenigsfurt-Urania. www.luminouschariottarot.com Book a 30 minute reading for £35 (please note you must request when booking which time slot you would prefer....see below) When booking please specify which time slot you would prefer Friday 12th July 6:00pm 6:30pm 7:00pm 7:30pm 8:00pm 8:30pm Bus Stop Studios 53 London Road St Leonards on Sea TN37 6AY
