Service Description

Crewelwork Embroidery Summer School with Becky Hogg Step into the decorative world of Jacobean crewelwork, a style of embroidery known for flowing vines, playful animals, bold florals & expressive stitches. Originating in the seventeenth century & traditionally worked in wool, Jacobean embroidery is rich, lively & full of character, focusing less on rules & more on texture, colour & movement. This five-part course offers a relaxed introduction to contemporary crewelwork, ideal for anyone curious about traditional embroidery with a contemporary approach. You will learn a range of core stitches, explore how they work together within a design & build confidence through guided practice. While staying true to the spirit of crewelwork, we will be stitching with beautiful DMC Eco Vita wool threads, bringing a sustainable twist to this historic technique. This course will run with a smaller group than our usual classes due to the nature of the technique & the specialist materials used, allowing for a slower pace & more individual guidance. Suitable for beginners, as well as those with some embroidery experience who would like to expand their stitch vocabulary & enjoy a focused hand-stitching project. Make a creative holiday of it: this week-long (5 part) course is part of the Bus Stop Studios Summer School programme & is perfect for anyone planning a restorative break by the sea. Learn in the morning, then spend the afternoon & evening exploring our wonderful seaside town. We also have a recommended list of accommodation. Please get in touch for details. Materials. All materials are included in the course price. This includes a wooden rotary embroidery frame, fabric, 6 x DMC Eco Vita wool threads & additional specialist embroidery materials.
