Natural Yarn Dyeing Workshop - Dye Your Own Yarn Love yarn, colour, and making something completely unique? This friendly, hands on workshop taught by Tara Macdonald, Natural Dyer, introduces you to the basics of natural dyeing, with plenty of time to experiment and build your own palette. Natural dyeing is a traditional way of colouring fibres using plant based and natural materials. It is full of surprises, subtle shifts, and beautiful variation, which makes it perfect for anyone who enjoys the process as much as the finished result. If you knit, crochet, or embroider, you will go home with yarn that is truly your own, ready to use in your next project. Over the session, you will learn how to prepare wool yarn for dyeing, create dye pots, and develop a rainbow of colours. Tara will guide you through the process step by step, showing you how to build shades and tones, and how to care for your yarn afterwards so your colours stay looking their best. You will be dyeing wool yarn, with a choice of thickness on the day, 2 ply or DK, depending on whether you would like to use your yarn for embroidery, knitting, or crochet. 2 ply is perfect for embroidery, especially techniques such as crewelwork or canvas work, while DK is a great option if you are planning to knit or crochet with your finished yarn. You will leave with a set of dyed mini skeins to take home, plus an instruction leaflet so you can repeat the process again. Tara Macdonald is one of our regular tutors at Bus Stop Studios. A Natural Dyer based in East Sussex, she creates beautifully coloured yarns and textiles using traditional, plant based processes all from her garden, and teaches workshops with a warm, practical approach. Places are limited to keep the group small. Terms & Conditions for Class Bookings Most of our classes are designed for adults. If you are unsure whether a class is suitable, please contact us before booking. Bookings & Payments - Classes, workshops and events can be booked via our website or in person at Bus Stop Studios, 53 London Road, St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex TN37 6AY. - Bookings are first come, first served. - Full payment is required at the time of booking to secure your place. (please see below for payment options) - A booking confirmation will be sent by email once payment has been processed. Pricing & Supported Places - As a small independent business, our class fees help cover running costs, tutor pay, preparation time and associated expenses. - We may offer 1-2 lower income or supported places on selected courses, subject to availability. - These must be requested by email before booking and are offered at our discretion. - If the cost of a longer course feels difficult to manage, please contact us before booking and we may be able to discuss options such as a payment plan. Materials - Materials and tools vary by class. Please check the course description for details. Cancellations & Changes - Bookings are non-refundable. - Transfers are usually not possible due to small class sizes. - With at least 14 days' notice, we may be able to offer a transfer or credit note, subject to availability. - With 7 days' notice, we may be able to offer an alternative date, but this is not guaranteed. -If you cannot attend, you may send someone else in your place. Please let us know their name before the class. Cancellations by Us - If we need to cancel a class, workshop or event, you will receive a full refund. - Our liability is limited to the cost of the class only. Insurance & Copyright - Bus Stop Studios is fully insured for all classes and workshops, and all tutors hold their own Public Liability Insurance. - Course content, handouts, photography and designs are for personal use only and may not be copied, shared or used for teaching or commercial purposes without written permission. Photography - We may occasionally take photographs during classes for marketing or social media. - We will always ask permission before taking or using identifiable images. - Please let us know in advance if you have any concerns about photography.
