At Bus Stop Studios, we’re all about celebrating creativity—and that includes the wonderful tutors who bring their skills, energy, and passion into our classroom every week. One of our regular and much-loved teachers is Lauren from Sew Cosy Patterns.
Lauren teaches machine sewing workshops for all levels, and her classes have become a go-to for anyone wanting to improve their sewing skills in a relaxed, supportive environment. Whether you’re conquering your first zip or crafting a professional-looking wash bag, Lauren is the tutor you want cheering you on.
Based in Eastbourne, Lauren runs Sew Cosy Patterns with her sister Caitlin, creating accessible and original sewing patterns that are fun, fresh, and designed to boost confidence at every stage. And good news—you can buy their patterns right here in our shop at Bus Stop Studios! From beginner-friendly projects to cool kits for kids, these patterns are a great way to keep sewing at home.
Lauren doesn’t just teach adults—her hugely popular kids’ sewing machine workshops are a hit every time, and we’re excited to be running more of them throughout the summer holidays.
And there’s even more to come... watch this space for brand new workshops coming soon, including how to follow sewing patterns to make your own garments. Perfect for anyone ready to take their sewing to the next level!
We caught up with Lauren for a quick Q&A to find out more about her creative journey and what it’s like to be in one of her classes.
🧵 Q&A with Lauren
1. What do you teach at Bus Stop Studios, and what do you love most about it?I teach sewing, and I love seeing people take home their finished projects with the confidence to make it again!
2. Can you describe your class in three words?Welcoming, relaxed, informative.
3. What’s your favourite material or tool to work with and why?I love working with natural fibres—linen is my absolute favourite because of the way it looks and feels.
4. How did you get into your craft or creative practice?I started sewing because I love making my own clothes and home furnishings—it means I can get exactly what I want and save money at the same time.
5. Do you remember the first thing you ever made?Yes! The first piece of clothing I ever made was a skirt from a pair of old jeans… very early 2000s vibes!
6. What inspires your work right now?Definitely the idea of making and creating rather than buying fast fashion. I love being able to slow down and make things that last.
7. What can students expect when they join your workshop? To learn how to complete a project from start to finish—and pick up loads of useful techniques along the way.
8. What’s one tip you’d give to someone new to sewing?Play with your sewing machine! Start small and don’t worry about being perfect—just enjoy the process.
9. What’s your dream project you haven’t done yet?I’d love to print my own fabric and use it to make a dress or other clothing. That’s the dream!
10. What’s one thing people are always surprised to learn in your class? That it doesn’t really matter if your stitching isn’t perfect—it’s about learning and creating something you're proud of.
