Evening Knitting School with Katie Jones Come stitch up some cosy joy this winter with renowned knit and crochet designer Katie Jones, a regular tutor at Bus Stop Studios, where she also leads our regular crochet classes and seasonal workshops. This relaxed, friendly course is perfect for absolute beginners and confident improvers alike. Whether you’re picking up needles for the first time or ready to build on the basics, Katie will guide you through everything you need to gain confidence and enjoy the meditative magic of knitting. What You’ll Learn Beginners will cover: - Casting on and binding off - Knit & purl stitches - Working in rows - Simple shaping and fixing mistakes - Yarn types, needle sizes & tension - Reading a basic pattern Improvers can explore: - Textured stitch patterns (like seed stitch, ribbing, or lace) - Colour play and combining yarns - Customising shapes - Troubleshooting patterns Materials Basic yarn and materials are provided. The course price includes a small materials fee. Want to bring your own colours? Crochet Beret Workshop with Katie Jones Join award winning knitwear designer Katie Jones for a fun and creative full day workshop exploring how to crochet your own beret. This cosy project is perfect for adding a unique touch to your winter wardrobe, or for wearing throughout the year if you love a bold handmade accessory. This workshop is designed for experienced beginners who can already hold a hook comfortably and work the basic crochet stitches. If you are familiar with simple stitches and ready to build your skills, this project is an ideal next step. More experienced crocheters will also enjoy the relaxed pace and opportunity to refine shaping techniques. You will learn how to work in the round, how to increase and decrease to create structure, and how to finish your beret so it fits beautifully. Katie will guide you through each stage with plenty of one to one support in a friendly, creative space. Katie is well known for her playful, colourful approach to crochet and regularly teaches popular workshops at Bus Stop Studios. Her best selling crochet books, including her new 'Crochet Shapes' book, have inspired makers all over the world and her classes always combine skill building with joy and confidence. All materials for the workshop are included. You will receive yarn for your beret, a pattern, and the use of hooks during the session. You can choose from a range of yarn options or try working with a wool mohair mix for a softer finish. You will leave with a finished or nearly finished beret and the confidence to continue at home. There will be a lunch break during the day, giving you time to rest, chat and enjoy the creative atmosphere before continuing with your project. Whether you're a complete beginner or already hooked on crochet, this six-part course is designed to help you build confidence, develop new skills, and enjoy creative time in a friendly, supportive setting. Who’s it for? Complete beginners: Learn all the fundamentals from scratch — no experience necessary. Confident crocheters: Bring along a tricky pattern or project and let Katie guide you through it with expert support. What You’ll Learn Over six sessions, beginners will cover: - How to make a classic granny square - Working in rows and in the round - Colour changes and simple colourwork - Creating texture with a variety of stitches - Understanding hooks, yarns, tension, and reading basic patterns Improvers can explore: - More advanced stitch combinations - Starting and shaping garments or accessories - Finishing techniques - Troubleshooting patterns - Personal project development with Katie’s guidance Materials Basic yarn and tools for practice are included in the course fee. If you'd prefer to use your own colours or fibres, we’ll send you a materials list in advance. A £5 materials fee is included in the price.
